I roar you what…come by this if you’re a fan of the Hulk alone. That in itself is reason enough to leer this movie. I have forever loved all that the Hulk represents and how he rolls. But he about lost his mind in this movie! I loved it!!! Beyond that, valid area, comely fantasy cartoon babes abound, and as a Marine, I appreciated how Captain America and the military were portrayed as they went into battle against Nazis and status aliens in WWII. C,mon…status aliens, dream babes, Nazis, and the Hulk…what’re you waiting for? Relax the literary critic inside you and have some fun. Go. Rent.

Most agree that the epic was dreadful for this spirited release. I personally reflect section 1 was bearable, but 2 was stop to unwatchable. What I DO however like about this release, is the quality Bluray brings. Those who converse you animation wont be enhanced by hi def? Demonstrate them this. Crisp lines, and solid colors all around. Very impressive to explore visually. And the sound was astonishing. I only exercise the two speakers on my TV, but the sound that came out of this release was unexcited magnificent improbable, leaps and bounds over my regular DVDs.

All of these DVDs are expansive. We’ve got them all!

They’re 90 minutes long, and my nephew can’t glean enough of them. He literally runs around the house singing “Much Machines” from the theme song…it’s magnificent cute. He learns quite a bit about the different types of machines, and he’s really into all of the action. This one is perfect for winter! Definitely recommend!

Witty, well-acted kids flick that parents will luxuriate in as well.

A very winning cast, mammoth dwelling, kindly kids’ tale to work with, reliable production do for some campy scariness for kids with entertainment for mom and dad as well. Charming petite movie that appeals to the kid in all of us.The pickle of the cows really did design me laugh out loud.

The acting by one and all was advantageous, especially Richard E. Grant as the head of the vampire family. He brought a non-threatening, yet nerve wracking (well, for kids, anyway) presence to the movie. His charming powers over Mrs. Thompson were hysterical, and the entire cast did very well with this movie.

One for the kids that mom and dad will luxuriate in sitting through, which is a rarity anymore, except for the likes of Shrek.

Oh, and I can’t omit Rollo Weeks, as The Dinky Vampire himself. He was so charming, so perfectly nailed the role of Rudolph. As well as the role for arguably the cutest kid in movies, Jonathan Lipnicki, as Tony Thompson. The crush Anna had on him was acted out adorably by Anna Popplewell, as well. There was fair grand acting all around in The Exiguous Vampire.

A job well done by all alive to. Intriguing, campy, scary enough for the exiguous ones without freaking them out even slightly, and quiet challenging for the adults.

“The Tiny Vampire,” directed by Uli Edel, is an attractive fantasy/comedy for a family audience. The fable involves Tony Thompson (played by Jonathan Lipnicki), an American boy whose family has relocated to Spacious Britain. There Tony befriends Rudolph (Rollo Weeks) a vampire boy whose family is being ruthlessly pursued by a vampire hunter who aims to raze them.

This film portrays vampires as a persecuted minority who really mean no afflict to humans (they’ll drink cow blood if they need to) . The film contains some fun peek gags (many piquant vampire cows) and one-liners. There are also some genuinely magical sequences (most notably, some flying scenes) .

Lipnicki carries his lead role well. And the amazing Alice Krige (who also played the Borg Queen in “Star Trek: First Contact”) is a delight as Rudolph’s sexy vampire mom. But the standout performance is delivered by young Rollo Weeks as the vampire boy. Weeks brings both an ethereal charisma and a childlike ebullience to his character. The vampire performances are enhanced by superb makeup and costuming.

There are a few slightly scary scenes, but nothing that bothered my 5-year feeble nephew too great. The accent in this film is on humor, fantasy, family, and friendship. I noticed some holes in the film’s explanation of vampirism. But if you don’t fetch too necessary about the details, you should regain “The Itsy-bitsy Vampire” to be a delight for all ages.

i would have given this a 5 star review, but this is censored. all the improper language is edited out. but its serene a vast dvd status.

I was unable to examine this note while it was airing on TV, so I was very furious to hear that it was coming out on DVD. It’s gargantuan. You certainly don’t need to be a NOFX fan, or even a fan of punk music, to savor it. I’m recommending it to friends of mine I’m obvious would disfavor NOFX. It has silly moments (the fans showing Smelly no adore), touching moments (Bulky Mike missing his daughter’s birthday), tense moments (an anti-religion band in religion-heavy territory), and moments where you fair have to worship the band’s ambition and what they’re trying to finish on this tour. And they’re doing it totally wasted! The footage is just, NOFX are an inaugurate book. I thouroughly enjoyed watching it, and I haven’t even made it to the bonus disc yet.

I will admit, One of the main reasons I wanted to contemplate this movie was because of the buzz about it being one of the most sexually explicit movies ever made in the non-porn industry. I didn’t really inquire to accept the movie inspiring, I objective wanted to peruse what everyone was talking about.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Shortbus! Click Here

The first puny or so was nothing but explicit sex and I almost turned the movie off thinking it was going to be pointless, that this was all there was to the movie, but I had nothing better to do so I kept watching.

This movie is not porn, nor is it erotica. This movie IS an uncensored peer at the truth about adore and sex, and is probably one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is brutally unbiased, opinion provoking, intense at times, and comical at others. These are characters that we can describe to, because they are exact.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Shortbus! Click Here

I can not say enough definite things about this movie, it is art, it is truth, it is exceptional.

It will definitely be a fragment of my DVD collection.

Strange as it seems, I watched “This Film is Not Yet Rated” and “Shortbus” in the same day. And some fraction of me wondered … did John Cameron Mitchell even bother to submit this to the MPAA? Not, of course, because he expected to receive a “passing-grade” from the prudish parents (and the two members of the clergy) that urge the ratings and appeals board … but simply to force the cloistered collection of puritans to perceive couples attempting to negotiate their sexuality.

The fabulous ensemble cast is phenomenal at arousing laughter, compassion, and perhaps a few tears. Moreover, in a irregular procedure, watching Sofia navigate the Shortbus haven is kind of like a return to high-school parties: everyone is making out, someone is crying in the closet, a couple of people are watching television, a group of desperate goofs are playing “roam the bottle,” and your boyfriend (or girlfriend) is bored. Ohh, and you never leave very satisfied:)

What surprised me was how this film could have been painfully predictable, but was not. For instance, in the film’s introduction, Sophia expresses that she has never climaxed with her husband. When she explores Shortbus, she meets Severin (a tortured dominatrix) . When the two women bond and become intimate, the viewer is convinced that satisfaction will reach from another woman. Not so (thank goodness!) . In fact, she is betrayed by Severin’s greedy lust. This is an unexpected, painful, and realistic turn for the film. I applaud the fact the Mitchell complicates sex … there are no easy answers for Mitchell (Thank you!!)

Unlike some of the reviewers here, I do not contemplate “less is more.” We have lived with “less is more” for arrangement too long. We Americans believe sex is gross … and if any films include it, they better be hidden in succor rooms … leisurely hideous beaded curtains. These films invariably degrade both sexes and they degrade sex itself. This film shows Americans loving-couples (in many cases real-life couples) inviting in consensual sex. It illustrates the complications and beauty of these relationships. Never does it condescend. Instead, it pleasing allows its viewers to become welcomed voyeurs … we learn as we search for. We experience the joy and frustration of these characters. It is … quite safe.

If you are tired of films that ignore the pleasures of sex for women (ignore, or as we learn from “This Film is Not Yet Rated,” simply are not permitted to demonstrate WOMEN enjoying sex), if you are searching for a film which treats the sex-life of ecstatic men with playfulness and respect, if you are desperate for a film which makes sex “sexy,” messy, and complicated, then give Shortbus your attention.

But if films with cheerful men pleasuring each other and women finding pleasure at all, turn you off … well, you may as well return to the dwelling tedious the beaded curtain. The rest of us will hope that Mitchell continues to manufacture upon his ground-breaking works!

Thank you, Mr. Mitchell!

The strength of DOCTOR WHO, the novel series and the new, has always been change, and change it has. Over forty-years ago the reveal began with one actor and now we have 10 actors who have portrayed the 900+ Timelord. The first season of the original series ended by changing leads through regeneration, as the 2nd season ended with the “lost” of not only the companion / esteem interest, but the whole “point-of-view” for the fresh series: Rose Tyler. Since the PILOT or “ROSE” episode the series has been through her eyes. The viewers could represent to the Human perspective more readily than the sometimes alien POV of the title character. In fact, the series gave up not only Rose, but her family, Mickey Smith, Jackie Tyler; Mum, Pete Tyler ( deceased, sort of) ,all of the anchor characters that added so mighty emotion to the current series.

Can the series, even one a clever and frosty as Dr. Who, survive such change.

The acknowledge is yes, definitely, yes. Although, there is a loss, infact the sense of loss that the viewer feels, is surely an undercurrent of the entire season, starting with the Christmas special or THE RUNAWAY BRIDE, the precursor to the moral first episode of the season. Opening suitable after series two leaves off, the Bride a.k.a Donna Friendly played by U.K. comedian Catherine Tate appears in the TARDIS, the Doctor has small time to ogle his loss before he is literally running for his life again. Like the Christmas Invasion, the special is light-hearted, and introduces a “one-shot” temporary companion (although Donna will be a major-part of season 4) . One highlight of the “BRIDE” would be the pretty soundtrack provided by composer Murray Gold, a truly cinematic fully orchestral backdrop that sells some fanboy innovative moments like a CAR Stir WITH THE TARDIS ( I kid u not, the iconic Call-box is zipping though traffic like something from a 70’s cop-show) . Donna sums up the subtle theme as she declines the role of companion, stating that the Doctor needs someone to “finish him from going to far” as he coldly sticks to his assertion of the previous Christmas: “No second chances” while dispatching the Empress and her brood.

In the second tale in this spot, but the steady season opener, current regular companion MARTHA JONES is introduced in a satisfying inaugurate to 2007 in “SMITH and JONES” ( a goof reference to the Doctor’s sometimes alias of Dr. John Smith which shows up again in the season, too) . An all too different character than Rose, Martha is Medical Student, so she doesn’t need the Doctor to rescue her from her life as slacker Rose did, she’s radiant in a less pop culture intention than Rose, more analytical like the Doctor. Like Rose, we meet her family in the episodes opening over several rapid-fire conversations via cellphone. Curious things are afoot at her hospital which eventually ends up on the Moon. More as window dressing, the Jadoon Stormtroopers, beautifully realized alien police are searching for an vampiric alien among the human patients and doctors. Martha and the Doctor immediately build an exquisite on veil chemistry, while storytellers nick to the fling and give us two instances of Doctor/Companion kisses, the throwaway nature establishes the preoccupied (with love-lost) tone that the Doctor will regard Martha (unfortunately more like a veteran Dr. Who relationship) . The Doctor spells this out saying, “this doesn’t mean anything,” sadly for Martha, this feeling isn’t mutual and leads to choices made by the destroy of the season. So the Doctor sacrifices himself to flush out the fugitive, while Martha literally breaths her final breath in an attempt to set aside the Doctor’s life, earning herself a non-committal invite to the TARDIS.

The major fraction of the first half of the 13 exhibit season, 14 with the “Bride” Special (#0) is mature. Smith & Jones (#1) is strong, the Shakespeare Code (#2) is frankly Shining!

GRIDLOCK (#3) is very qualified, but the Dalek 2 parter: “Daleks in Manhattan” and “Evolution of the Daleks (#4-5) “, NOT SO Radiant, nor is “Lazarius Experiment (#6) ” or “42 (#7) ” But the final HALF of the season (#8-13) is GOLDEN, leading up to a 3 fraction finale re-introducing a classic character that will blow you away!!! Away!!!

“SHAKESPEARE CODE”, Martha’s first mosey help in time, they meet the Bard himself and learn the secret of Shakespeare’s renowned lost play. This was film partly in the accurate rebuild Globe Theater, so it looks mammoth. As is Dean Kelly’s rock-n-roll performance as the renown playwright. This contains some of the best dialogue the series has EVER had, so great so that you considerable glance it repeatedly to truly savor this one ( I played this one to high-schoolers as a follow-up to Hamlet) .

“GRIDLOCK,” is a substantial sci-fi myth, in which people are living their lives stuck decades and decades on a skyway traffic problem. The is the 3rd chronicle in the current series history to go to the far-future “Recent Earth” and the Doctor meets the Face of Boe for the prophesied 3rd and final time. A spruce thought with ample effects and some genuinely lively moments, like the music montage of the stranded freeway drivers connected by faith and song. The Face reveals a secret to the Doctor which tips us off to the season finale.

The DALEKS in MANHATTAN” and “EVOLUTION of the DALEKS” is the Doctor’s apology to Martha for showing off taking her to Novel Earth on the rebound as it were, but overall this 2 allotment doesn’t work. There is some mountainous integration of footage actually shot in current NYC, reworked to inspect like the 1920’s, but the premise that the sole surviving Daleks (the Cult of Skaro, seen escaping last season’s finale) are making not only PIG-Slaves, but the EMPIRE Situation BUILDING itself as portion of a notion to recreate their run using humans for materials. There are some valid performances all around, but the “Evolution” of the Human-Dalek (both costume and view), is disappointing and distracting. But, the Art Deco 1930s style Empire Location Do does lend itself to that of the Daleks.

Episodes 6 and 7, “The LAZARIUS EXPERIMENT” and “42″ are both so derivative of Favorite sci-fi that they are unsatisfying when compared to some of the really gargantuan shows of the season. LAZARIUS is very considerable a variation on “the Waft” while “42″ with its precise time belief (”24″ reversed) and spacecraft claustrophobia is like both Impossible Planet of last season and other movies of the genre. But, Dr. Lazarius himself is afforded an pleasant performance by Dr. Who writer Notice Gatiss ( of “League of Gentlemen” and “Jekyll”) .

Again proving that the producers are accurate fans themselves, episodes 8 and 9, Human Nature and The Family of Blood, are based on a fan well-liked Dr. Who Fresh (with the 7th Doctor), translating seamlessly to TV. It is a classic chronicle concept, the Doctor becomes Human!! In order to race a family of aliens ( a conception already borrowed from the unique for season one’s Slitheens, an alien surname) the Doctor puts his Timelord identity into a notice, only Martha knows who he is and is do in charge of this secret as he really becomes John Smith, History teacher (of course) of a boys school fair before WWI. I can’t say enough about the heart-wrenching excellence of this 2 parter. The Doctor falls in adore and must design some hard choices. This also sets up things to advance in the finale.

Episode 10, “BLINK,” happens to be filler, like last seasons “Savor and Monsters” in which the regular cast is all but absent in order to shoot another episode simultaneously. Like “Like and Monsters” this episode is a creative triumph, also wrong on a previously published epic. “BLINK” also happens to be the scariest demonstrate of the current series history!

In a nutshell, the Doctor is sending messages from the past to “the show” through DVD extras or easter eggs, warning about weeping angel statues that go at you when no one is looking, so don’t even blink! Although, no one is killed on veil, not in any feeble sense, this one is peaceful keeping my kids up at night (especially in a city illustrious for its cemeteries) ! BLINK was written by Steven Moffat, two-time consequtive HUGO winner (both for DR.WHO, series 2 the “GIRL IN THE FIREPLACE” and series one’s “EMPTY CHILD.” Moffat has next year’s Hugo in the bag with BLINK, if his writing in JEKYLL doesn’t split the vote (look my review for more on JEKYLL) .

The final 3 parter, “UTOPIA”, “The SOUND of DRUMS” and “LAST of the TIMELORDS” are perfection. Really. I can say more without revealing too distinguished (although the U.K. press already did that long before the shows aired), but the season is elephantine of clues leading up to this (even in TORCHWOODS final episodes there are clues) . Capt. Jack returns for all three of these and there are primary guest appearances such as SIR DEREK JACOBI ( famed for I, Claudius), how mammoth is that!! Also, John Sims (from Life on Mars) . The first of these 3 parts, UTOPIA, comes across as a Indignant Max deal, don’t give up on it, that is unbiased subterfuge! Create plans to gawk the three of these back-to-back-to-back, you’re not gonna’ want to discontinuance.

Third time’s a charm–that’s the inevitable cliche that pops to mind. If the first series (season) of Doctor Who was splendid with some hiccups and the second quite attractive overall, the show’s creators seem to have really hit their perambulate with the third series here and brought forth an qualified range of science fiction adventures at once tantalizing, inventive, and exciting–innovative and original but very legal to the show’s spirit over the decades. Oh, and loads of fun, of course.

By now David Tennant has a totally surefire purchase of the Doctor’s character and has contributed considerable to its portrayal–and convincingly developed it in the bargain, especially in light of the events of series two. Eccentric as always, frenetic and off the wall but silently nursing a deep unhappy, launch and great and yet with a positive emotional distance and brusqueness. The Doctor we all know and like, but a exiguous more complex. You will never accept me to say that he’s better than Tom Baker as some have, but my sense is that Tennant may very well destroy up putting as definitive a imprint on the renegade Time Lord for this generation as Baker did for us old-timers. As for the Doctor’s companion, it’s distinct that the writers were wisely avoiding a advise of Rose (whom we all miss, yes) and going instead for a somewhat more veteran and shimmering foil in up-and-coming med student Martha (as played by Freema Agyeman) –a doctor in training, as it were, a bit of cleverness that the writers thankfully capitalize on in her first episode. The chemistry strains a bit to spark at first and the one-sided romance angle is brought in a bit too abruptly perhaps, but aloof The Doctor and Martha fabricate a nice, believable team overall.

The storytelling for this series is excellence itself. Not perfection, mind you, which is humanly impossible anyway, but even the lesser episodes are better than most of what you’ll salvage on TV nowadays–especially when it comes to sci-fi. “The Runaway Bride” is pleasurable if slightly curved holiday fun in the diagram a Christmas special should be, “Smith and Jones” has a hint of Douglas Adams influence in its satirically-edged motifs of galactic bureaucracies and absurd situations, “The Shakespeare Code” is a highly memorable pseudo-historical starring the Bard himself in a manner totally cohesive with the region, and “Gridlock” is a claustrophobic return to Unusual Fresh York with an edgier angle. The “Daleks in Manhattan”/”Evolution of the Daleks” two-parter is kind of like comfort food for older Doctor Who fans–a very typical Dalek story of invasion and mutation, but with a few original ingredients like the human/dalek hybrid and the 1930’s Unusual York setting. “The Lazarus Experiment” and “42″ likewise conform to tried-and-true Doctor Who formulas but successfully so, “42″ being something of an cocktail mix of “Ark in Area” and “Inferno” complete with a not overplayed ecological theme.

On the other hand, “Human Nature”/”The Family of Blood” and “Blink” are unlike anything ever before seen really in Doctor Who and really showcase the creativity and never-ending potential of the reveal. And then finally the three-part chronicle series conclusion, “Utopia”/”The Sound of Drums”/”The Last of the Time Lords” first takes the Doctor to the Ample Crunch and then builds on countless clues scattered throughout all the season’s prior episodes to expertly spring quite a surprise on the unsuspecting viewer, the return of…well, if you don’t know I won’t give it away, but I haven’t seen this particular character so masterfully portrayed since the current in the early 1970’s. It must be admitted that the climax in share three is impartial a tad fanciful and will induce a sense of deja vu in anyone who in their childhood attested their understanding in magic and clapped their hands accordingly so as to revive Tinkerbell, but this didn’t really bother me consciously till well afterwards, meaning that the writers succeeded in getting me to suspend my disbelief long enough for them to gather away with their forgivable itsy-bitsy cheat.

All in all then, the show’s creators have struck a resplendent balance throughout between the futuristic and the pseudo-historical, the cozily familiar and the out-on-a-limb recent, the thoughtfully speculative and the chills & thrills adventurous. Of course tastes will differ, but my impression anyway is that “Doctor Who” has now really arrive into its beget again as a wonderfully pleasurable science fiction TV program with this compelling variety of storylines in series three, all of which can be watched and enjoyed again and again (along with all the usual extras and behind-the-scenes programs) on this attractively packaged DVD set–a bit sturdier in develop than the last two, thankfully. Only beware, once you originate watching you won’t even want to blink!

Ikko is a young child when she is saved by the Dim Angel and safely gets away to America after her dad (a Don of the Yakuza) dies. When she grows up she calls herself the Dismal Angel and goes support to Japan to seize revenge. With her is a Japanese-American gang member who comes for fun and killing I guess. I didn’t really win why he was always speaking English since he was so terrible at it but it was laughable and that was probably the point.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Black Angel! Click Here

It seems like a simple chronicle but really isn’t. Ikko’s half-sister Chiaki has married the unusual boss, Nogi, who placed the order for the hit in the first space. Then there is a dirty cop who works for the crime family and is honest looking to slip up all kinds of wretchedness between them and Ikko. He knows some lovely juicy stuff and it gets mildly enthralling. We know from the inaugurate of the movie that Ikko was kidnapped at birth and isn’t the precise daughter of the Don. She doesn’t know this but finds out mid-way through the movie. Then we have the Dusky Angel herself who has become a dope fiend thanks to novel boss Nogi and she works for him now.

What I really liked about the movie is the cinematography. There are clear shots you will never forget like the Shadowy Angel shooting down everybody while Ikko is holding on to her waist and peeking out from late to survey the gunplay. The directing job is very favorable as seen when Ikko confronts Chiaki at a pool. The movie isn’t a complete roller coaster toddle but it does manages to be very gloomy and titillating at the same time. Everything usually takes set at night and the mood is what got me twisted fair away.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Black Angel! Click Here

If you are fan of stylized action and violence then you may like this movie even more. There are decent shooutouts and even some martial arts being traditional. Not powerful, but it is always nice to peruse fighting done well in movies. Unprejudiced an added bonus for serious action junkies like me I guess. The final shootout is not spectacular but well done. The dialogue and the all out tragedy is distinguished more absorbing. Not some of the greatest action ever but some of the best I have seen in the girls with guns genre. The nudity and graphic violence fit honest in as well. Excitement boosts this movie from a 3/5 to a 3.5/5.

The DVD from Tokyo Shock is anamorphically widescreened has lovely wonderful represent quality. Japanese and an English track included. I know some people like the English dub but the recent language is really the only arrangement you should peruse it. The English dub is unprejudiced nasty. The suppose acting is very poor and their dialogue is a lot different than the subtitles. And the subtitles are very well written.

I have so far had two copies of this DVD. Both from a huge blue and yellow box store and probably from the same shipment. Both copies have so far had problems playing succor beginning from episode 25 fraction B. It didn’t matter what audio track or subtitle, though the english audio track tended to play slightly better. The problems would continue until the demolish of this episode. Including the closing preview. (chapters 16-18) All of the other chapters, menus, and audio tracks played objective ravishing.

UPDATE: apparently there are some awful copies floating around, which is great better than all of them being awful.

I second the last post.

I honest received my second copy of Gundam Seed Destiny v 6 and I experienced the genuine same problems as what was described in the previous post for both copies. I tested it on 3 different DVD players and there doesn’t appear to be anything injurious with the disc’s surface. Without going into detail, the kill of episode 25 (possibly the most indispensable couple of minutes in the disc in terms of chronicle) is impossible to witness on most DVD players (that I’ve seen) . Somebody at Bandai Entertainment’s validation department must have been sleeping on the job or something because I can’t perceive how you could miss such a glaring error. I serve every fan and distributor of Gundam Seed Destiny out there to send Bandai a complaint, especially if you already bought this product. [...]. As paying customers we have a moral to a DVD that works when we pay for one. It’s terrible enough that they’re releasing these things at a snail’s pace; they could at least give us this courtosy of a working product.

What makes this particularly disappointing is that this was a very respectable disc in terms of the shriek of the episodes. I won’t spoil the yarn for you if you haven’t seen it yet but there is a decent battle, some more character development and explanations and what might be a few surprises.

I’m collected upset about the fact that this product doesn’t work properly but if it did work, I couldn’t gawk myself having given it a rating of less then 4 stars.

No one would fill that in this day and age, factory farmers would be lynching their disabled animals, but that’s exactly what took station at Wiles Farm in Ohio. I’m clear this isn’t the only factory where such abuse is rampant. Really opened my eyes. Technically, there’s already been an anime series — “Negima” — about preteen wizard/schoolteacher Negi Springfield.

But apparently that isn’t stopping them from creating another parallel series, rebooting and revamping Ken Akamatsu’s bestselling manga into the visually lush, fantastical “Negima!?” (see, the question and exclaimation mark mean it’s a different show!). And this series is a vastly different creation — while it’s rarely faithful to the original manga’s storylines, it’s still a solid fantasy story sprinkled with some fun comic relief. And chupacabras.

Negi has been assigned to a vast all-girls Mahora Academy in Japan — but things start going wrong before he even starts. Half-asleep student Asuna witnesses a small magical display, and a vampire is attacking students. A vampire who is also his student.

Even worse, the vampire Evangeline and her robotic partner Chachamaru are targeting Negi, since the boy is her only ticket out of a curse that binds her to Mahora. Even worse, her suppressed superpowers come back at the full moon — and soon Negi’s only hope of defeating Evangeline is by forming a Pactio (a magical contract). Asuna is the logical choice since she already knows about his magic, but will the stubborn girl agree before Evangeline’s icy magic smashes Mahora?

But there’s more trouble when a pair of disguised wizards bring news — the legendary Star Crystal has been stolen, and it may be related to odd happenings at Mahora. As Negi tries to avoid erminehood, he must deal with a kindly resident ghost, the dangerous Library Island, camping trips with his Pactio partners, and an evil fairy that is attacking the school — and even transports them to another dimension. Can Negi keep his class safe from whatever has stolen the Star Crystal — and avoid being turned into an animal?

For the record, “Negima!?” isn’t very faithful to Ken Akamatsu’s original manga — the first few episodes loosely follow one of his storylines, before spinning off in a totally different direction with the whole Star Crystal storyline. And rather than use the comedy and romantic woes, the first thirteen episodes choose to focus on all the magic that can be crammed into thirteen episodes — transformations, spells, enslavement, vampires, aerial battles and chupacabras. Well, sort of.

Fortunately “Negima!?” never feels overstuffed, even though there’s plenty going on here on many levels (personal, magical, and Pactiowise). The various subplots mesh together very smoothly right up to the cliffhanger, and the writers patch in stretches of quiet time where the characters talk, plot and occasionally go to class. And of course, we get some spectacular magical battles and creepy magical creatures, with one highlight being the flashback of Negi’s father battling Evangeline in a ruined city.

And though the focus is on magic and action, there’s still plenty of comic relief — chupacabra clubs, meatball-shapoed spies, goofy Pactio transformations, and a hilarious scene where Negi tries fruitlessly to erase Asuna’s memory. His life becomes entertainingly chaotic as more and more girls learn of his magic powers, and he’s forced to make more and more Pactios.

Even if “Negima!?” had a really rotten storyline, it would be worth watching for the simply stunning animation. The entire series is soaked in dark jewel tones and swirling magical spells, with erupting jungles of ice and hedgey mazes where evil creatures lurk. Mahora is a shadowy, vaguely gothic place with lots of dim streets and a city filled with starlike lights. And the level of detail can be breathtaking — while casting one elaborate spell, Asuna can be seen clearly reflected in Negi’s glasses.

Negi proves to be a likable little hero — earnest, courageous, unselfish and a bit tightly wound, while Asuna proves to be stubborn, brash, eccentric and almost superhumanly strong. And though there’s a vast cast, they all get a measure of fleshing out — Konoka and her hard-nosed bodyguard Setsuna, serene ninja Kaede, bookish Nodoka, and even a ghostly student who’s still hanging around. The best is undoubtedly Evangeline — especially since the writers pause to reveal what a tragic, lonely life she has.

“Negima!?” is a stunningly animated revamp Negi Springfield’s adventures — and while not terribly faithful to the manga, these dark-edged magical adventures are definitely worth watching.

First of all, I love the Negima manga series. The U.S. release is now up to volume 20 and it has been a fantastic ride the whole way through. The first anime series was ok. For the most part it followed the stories laid out in the first few volumes of the manga pretty accurately. Then for the final few episodes they created original material to wrap up the series. Overall, it was fun to see a great manga series in animated form with voices and music, but they really only scratched the surface.

This second Negima anime series starts over and pretty much tells its own story. Some might complain because they want to see the Manga better represented, but I see no need for this. I can enjoy the anime series as an alternate storyline, and this one is just all around fun. The animation is fantastic and the characters are well represented. Since it’s a new story I get the same sense of wondering what will happen next that I do when reading the manga.

One bit of advice. Going into this series it would help to be familiar either with the manga or the first anime, because this series spends a lot less time explaining things. I would probably be confused if I had just jumped into this series without my previous knowledge of the Negima universe. The creators really seem to assume the viewer already knows thw who’s and the what’s of it all. So it’s not truly a sequel because it starts over, but it’s not completely independent from previous versions either.

I look forward to the next DVD release continuing this series, as well as the hopeful eventual release of the live action Negima series.
